Have you ever tried Dry Brushing?
If you are not familiar with the term, I am referring to the manually light scrubbing or exfoliating in short upward strokes (always toward your heart), using no soap, water, or oil.
It really is as simple as it sounds, and the beauty is that all that you need is a firm, yet gentle Natural Boar Bristle Body Brush.
Dry Brushing seems to be trending as something new today, but actually this massage technique of applying a dry brush to your skin has its roots firmly planted as far back as the Ancient Greeks, and Japanese, and is currently a very common practice in Ayurvedic medicine today.
Dry Brushing has been shown to have numerous health benefits including:
EXFOLIATES your skin while sweeping away any dull, rough or flaky skin cells, resulting in softer and smoother skin.
INCREASES CIRCULATION which may help to remove toxins from your body.
UNCLOG PORES allowing your skin to absorb nutrients more easily while helping to promote healthy breathing skin, improves skin texture, and may help reduce signs of premature aging.
Dry Brushing is a stimulating massage. Studies have shown that morning hours (before you shower or bathe) is the best time of the day to dry brush as it helps invigorate and energize you. Save your evenings for an indulgent and relaxing bath which will help you get a more restful night’s sleep.
DRY BRUSHING TIPS
~ Adding this practice to your morning routine does not require a lot of time, and there is no recommended amount of sessions per week. Honestly for me it’s less than 5 minutes, and I usually do it once or twice a week. Do whatever works for you.
~ Always make sure that you brush upward toward the heart.
~ Make sure not to focus on the same area – no more than a couple of strokes so as not to cause skin irritations, and be sure to avoid your face, neck, genitals, and chest.
~ It’s important to use a brush with natural fibers; they’e gentle enough for you skin, yet firm. And remember, brushing harder is not better. The goal is light upward strokes.
~ Last, gently towel dry and don’t forget to apply your favorite non-toxic moisturizer. My favorites are organic argan oil, and organic cold pressed, unrefined virgin coconut oil.
