Today I am so happy to be celebrating National Relaxation Day because to me everything about this holiday is singing out Aromatherapy!
I mean could there be any other answer when it comes to encouraging you to slow down, unwind, and relax?
Now I realize this concept sounds easy enough, and you probably already know that taking a break from your hectic, and fast-pasted life, is just what you need to help recuperate and rejuvenate your already exhausted body, mind, and spirit. But what happens when you simply can’t seem to slow down, disconnect, or turn your mind off from all the outward hustle and bustle of your everyday life? I am hearing that song again, and it’s still singing Aromatherapy!
I will begin by mentioning that each of essential oils in this post have therapeutic properties that have been known to help with anxiety, stress, and insomnia. And now let’s begin with the first note in our song. This has to be the classic fresh floral, and calming scent of Lavender, and undoubtedly the most familiar essential oil to many when it comes to calming down and relaxing. For some quick, easy, and refreshing Lavender inspired recipes please refer to my previous post ‘Springtime Aromatherapy Recipes ~ Lavender’.
Our second, third, fourth and fifth notes are as follows:
*Roman Chamomile ~ Fruity, Sweet, and Herbaceous scent – Roman Chamomile is a gentle oil and has a profoundly calming effect on the nervous system and great for reducing pain.
Ylang Ylang ~ Sweet, Floral, and Exotic scent – Ylang Ylang is known for it’s deeply calming effects (when used in small doses, one drop in your bath is plenty) and also helps to alleviate anxiety, insomnia, and reduce tension, making this the perfect choice for a peaceful night’s sleep!
*Rose ~ Deep Soft Floral, Sweet, and Spicy scent – Rose has been known for its calming effects and to help reduce anxiety.
Frankincense ~ Fresh, Woody, and Spicy scent – Frankincense is renowned for its calming and grounding properties, and is great for headaches and tension in the neck muscles.
Now that you have a few of the Scentual Notes for our Song of Aromatherapy, the next step is how to use them. I have found the easiest way to begin is one of three ways – Diffusing the scent into the air, Spray Mist, and in your Bath or Shower.
I hope you enjoy the relaxation suggestions and recipes below, courtesy of birchhillhappenings.com, to help you get the most out of National Relaxation Day and remember, relaxing should not be reserved for a once a year celebration or special occasions, it should be celebrated everyday, even for just for a moment or two, after all you deserve it!
